Anatomy 101

AS A YOGA INSTRUCTOR it is imperative to build and continuously expand your knowledge base of anatomy. Understanding the body’s major joints, muscle groups and connective tissue and their delicate interplay in asana will allow you to better read students’ bodies, make intelligent and safe hands-on adjustments, and give pointed verbal cuing to produce the best results for your students.

A Refresher for Certified Teachers or an Intro for Students

Whether as a student teacher, understanding some basic anatomy will deepen your practice. Asa yoga practitioner, anatomical awareness will help align your physical asana into a state of sukha(happiness and ease), keeping your body safe while breathing with mind and body awareness.

This basic anatomy module will cover (11 hrs):

Introduction to Functional Anatomy:


Learn about the different systems of the body and how they interrelate:

Language of anatomy
Planes of movement
Types of movement
Learn about the musculoskeletal system
Types of joints
Types on bones
Types of muscles and connective tissue

In addition the course will include an introduction to the following

Anatomy of Breathing
The Spine and its anatomical make up
The Central Nervous system The Core, its role and its primary components
Joint Muscle Anatomy

Successful completion of this program will be rewarded with a Certificate of Completion, the hours of which are eligible for CEU’s with the Canadian Yoga Alliance.
