Breathe Yoga’s Module Program is structured to enable the flexibility to complete parts of the program for personal development only – or to complete the full program and become Certified to teach.

WINTER 2019 SESSION

MODULE 1

WORKSHOPS & PERSONAL PRACTICE IMMERSION

Attendance at these workshops is mandatory for all students wishing to complete their Certification. Requests to miss a workshop must be made in writing and workshop time must be made up.

This component of the program involves:

  • Attendance at the all day workshops held on Sundays (holiday weekends excepted)
  • Home Study and completion of homework assignments
  • 2 Week Personal Practice Immersion + Evaluation Students will attend daily morning classes for 2 weeks under the close guidance of Senior Instructors. Following a one on one Evaluation with the Program Director, students will choose which yoga stream they would like to follow in their personal practice for the duration of the program.
  • Attending yoga practice at least 4 times per week.

MODULE 2

CLASS OBSERVATION & PRACTICE TEACHING & PERSONAL PRACTICE CONTINUATION

April to end of May Flexible Timing

Throughout the period of April to end of May, trainees continue to log their personal practice hours (minimum 4 classes per week) and are able to schedule their own observation and teaching times.

This component of the program involves:

  • Live class observation
  • Live practice teaching amongst your Teacher Training peers as well as the Breathe Yoga Community
  • Continuation of Yoga Practice at least 4 times per week
  • Additional Workshops

SUMMER SESSION 2018

Module I: 2 WEEKS

Workshops & Practice Immersion

Monday July 9 – Friday July 20 Weekdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm

This portion of the program involves attendance at the all day workshops, completing homework and attending daily morning yoga practice. See the Curriculum and Format sections for additional Info.

MODULE II: 6 WEEKS

Yoga Practice & Practicum

Monday July 23 – Friday Sept 14. Flexible time. Make up your own schedule to complete your hours.

Personal practice continues during this phase. Students from out of town may submit a request to have their personal practice hours completed at a studio in their home community.

Practice teaching and live class observation are included in this phase of the program.
We endeavor to accommodate trainee’s schedules during this period with weekend and evenings times. Students requiring extensions to fulfill the program requirements may submit a request.

THE CURRICULUM

Both Winter and Summer Sessions’ Curriculum cover the following:

TECHNIQUE & METHODOLOGY

  • Yoga postures and logical sequencing in a vinyasa style
  • Posture alignment principles
  • Learning to modify postures for students at different levels and those with injuries
  • Safe assisting techniques to enable students to go deeper in a pose
  • Proper breathing (pranayama) techniques
  • Meditation
  • Pre-Natal Basics – how to modify for pregnancy
  • Basic sanskrit names of poses
  • Observe senior teachers in live classes for technique and student response
  • Assist teachers in live classes by providing hands on adjustments to students
  • Practice teaching with feedback and assessment by faculty teachers

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

  • Functional anatomy and the anatomy of poses
  • Chakras

YOGA HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY

  • Historical roots of yoga
  • Yamas and niyamas
  • Yoga ethics and etiquette of teaching
  • Modern Yoga

THE BUSINESS OF YOGA

  • Effective ways to gain teaching experience
  • The importance of specialising
  • Learning to market and start your own classes
  • Applying for work as an instructor
  • Teacher insurance

PERSONAL PRACTICE

  • Students are expected to attend a minimum of 4 classes per week: one mysore, one full Ashtanga primary series class and 2 classes of your choice. Please check our schedule

Tuition is $3,000 for both  Winter and Summer Programs.
